I first went to Clinic Del Mondo in May ’05. Of course I was a little anxious, as I think most people are, but after sitting and talking for a while at my initial consultation, I soon settled & felt very comfortable.
I was not at all happy about my hair loss, didn’t want to wear a wig & had little faith in pills & lotions. I was also very sceptical about transplants, having only ever seen the old plug style – I didn’t realise that the latest transplants were undetectable so of course the old ‘doll’s head’ look was the only type I had ever noticed.
All the information on the latest technique was explained in detail, along with a guarantee that if over 90% growth was not achieved, then replacement hairs would be given free of charge – this statement alone told me they were highly professional, committed & dedicated to their work. I decided to go ahead with a transplant scheduled for June.
My first procedure was 1500 grafts at the front area and I was told to wait the usual 6 months before seeing any decent growth. But after only 3 months, I was seeing significant growth, delighted with the result and starting to feel better about myself. A second procedure of 1500 grafts were transplanted to my crown area and, once again, the results have been outstanding. I’m absolutely thrilled. As you can see from these photos, it’s been a remarkable journey.

Hi, my name is Peter Compton. As I was the proprietor of a very busy gymnasium, Archers Gym on the Gold Coast, I was very conscious of my personal appearance.
I am now 56 years old and my story started many years ago when I had a full head of hair. I guess that makes me fairly qualified to write this hair loss story, so let’s begin.
As I washed my hair in the mornings, I saw all the hair in my hands and then later, in the basin from combing my hair. I wondered how long before I would go bald! I was only 25 years old, and the shower drain was starting to block.
My hair receded from the temples but my crown was still ok, so I started to comb my hair forward.
My mates started to call me baldy! My dad and his brothers were bald – you know – the donut thing……the writing was on the wall for me.
I contacted a well known clinic in Sydney, and after a consultation and costing, I set about trying to somehow regain a head of hair.
To cut a long story short, I had many scalp reductions and then four separate sessions of plug grafting. To the best of my knowledge, those procedures are no longer carried out or, if so, very little.
The end result was as good as could be expected in 1978-82 i.e. an un-natural hair line with the plug grafts showing a “tufting” appearance and a scar from the front of my head, right down the middle to the back of my head.
I could comb my hair and get somewhat of a hair style and make myself accept that at least for the time being that this is as good as it gets.
Many years later, now living and working on the Gold Coast, I had the good fortune to meet up with Geoff from Clinic Del Mondo, through an ad in the Sun newspaper. Geoff consulted with me and again I decided after 20 years since my last procedures in regaining hair, I would have another shot at it. I must admit, Geoff was thorough and gave me the absolute truth about which treatment would be best for me and how to go about it. I am truly grateful for that.
We went for synthetic hair replacement, because my own donor hair was almost non- existent. It was decided that we would try a small number of synthetic hairs as a test to see how the synthetics would react with my scalp. The colour was a perfect match, and of course , I had instant hair. After 3 months I then had more implanted at the top and back of my head which covered my scar with startling results. Can you imagine how I felt? In just a few short hours, all my scarring was no longer visible. I couldn’t believe it. My hairdresser could not believe it either! He had trouble coming to grips with the fact that it didn’t grow!!!
The results were so good, that Del Mondo and Biofibre (the synthetic hair manufacturers), asked if I would appear as their model at the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (I.S.H.R.S.) meeting in Chicago. Many thanks to Biofibre for a wonderful trip and great hair.
During this time, Geoff suggested I take a small tablet daily called ‘Propecia’, which has been designed scientifically to assist hair regrowth. Sure enough, my hair did thicken up to the extent that now I had some viable donor sites from which to forest my own hair follicles for a transplant.
I then had about 800 new hair grafts transplanted in front of my existing hair line and in between existing hair from the original plug grafts. The procedure was virtually pain free. The donor site was uncomfortable, not painful, for about 2 weeks until the sutures were removed.
It took about 9 or 10 days for the scabs to fall off around my hairline, so I wore a cap for this time and still worked daily in my normal job at the gym.
Some three months later, I noticed fine hairs popping up, and I can tell you – I was fairly excited to see my own hair growing out of a scalp that hadn’t seen hair for many years. The new hair growth slowly began to cover the old plug grafts. That was in late 2003.
Since then, I have had another 500 grafts placed in amongst them. The only downside is that I wish I had met Geoff many years ago but the technology was not around then.
As a result, although it is normal, the shock to the scalp can cause some grafted hair to shed temporarily. This was the case for me. The hair that was grafted into my hairline in late 2003 had thinned a little after my second procedure, but within a matter of weeks, it was all regrowing.
So now I am starting to see my new hair growth, slowly thickening - I can’t wait!!
The donor sites at the back of my head are very, very feint and healed perfectly. A bonus was the Del Mondo team were able to remove many of the old, round plug holes, leaving far less scarring than before. Where the hairs were placed around my hairline shows no scarring because each hair is placed singularly and the holes made to insert them are only very tiny as you can imagine.
My hairline has always been naturally high, so it was not brought down lower but it looks ok on me and looks really natural.
"SO YEAH - I’M A VERY HAPPY CHAP, THANKS TO THE DEL MONDO TEAM"

Robert was very unhappy with his hair loss, in fact he was downright miserable not knowing who to turn to or where to go for honest advice. It was affecting him socially, his self esteem was diminishing day by day, eventually getting to the point where he needed his security blanket permanently, i.e. he would not remove his beloved hat at all.
During his search for an answer to his hair loss, he had visited other hair replacement centres, some wanting to fit a wig onto his scalp, calling it “hair by hair, looking just like your own but, by the way, you need to come back every few weeks for aftercare and re-fitting” and, adding insult to injury, ……more money……more disillusionment. Finally someone suggested Robert should see a Trichologist, a specialist in hair and scalp problems. During his appointment with the Trichologist, Robert was told that hair micro-grafting was the only permanent answer for his hair loss. Clinic Del Mondo was recommended for a consultation.
By the time Robert first came to Clinic Del Mondo, he was completely sceptical. The unknown can be somewhat overwhelming at times and, with his self image at such a low ebb, Robert even had difficulty removing his hat for assessment. After many in-clinic consultations and questions over the phone, Robert came to the conclusion that hair micro-grafting was the only satisfactory method that would give him the results he was looking for. Now looking forward to correcting the problem that had plagued him for so long, Robert made the date for his procedure.
The best thing for the team at Clinic Del Mondo was the day we received a phone call from Robert, about 3 months after his transplant. He excitedly announced:
“Guess what? I’m not wearing my hat any more!! I love it"

I had been losing my hair since my early 20’s which I found quite depressing and, as time went by, my loss of self esteem became much more evident. Now in my mid 50’s with a balding pattern comparable to a 6 on the balding chart i.e. bald on top and very low at the back of my head, I had to do something to rectify the problem.
Being the Director of a business that gave me all access to information on how to overcome my balding problem, I knew the only permanent solution was going to be hair transplantation. Although I had very little hair at the back to donate for a transplant, I decided to make enquiries at several clinics throughout Australia.
After a process of elimination, I decided on the team at Clinic Del Mondo. My reasons for this choice were simple. Firstly, they took the time to listen and answer all my questions. Secondly, they were very careful to make me fully aware that with my degree of hair loss, I would never achieve the thickness and density I enjoyed in my teens. In my case, I was told I could achieve only a thin coverage, which I was quite happy to accept.
A plan was made for the number of grafts and amount of procedures for my particular situation. The decision was made to begin with the hairline to mid section in the first procedure, then mid section and crown at the second procedure.
My first procedure was 28/3/08 using 2000 grafts and as you can see from the before and after photos, I am by no means finished but I can tell you that just having a hairline again has made me feel like a new man.
I have now booked for my second procedure and have no hesitation in recommending the team at Clinic Del Mondo. In fact, I would like to extend my personal thank you to this very talented and professional team – Dr Leat, Geoff, Liz, Joanne and Penny.
If you are considering a hair transplant, please do not hesitate to phone me personally on 0417 072061. I would be more than happy to speak with you.
